Guillermo del Toro adapting his Strain viral vamp novels for TV

Guillermo del Toro is heading to cable. The director, alongside former Lost producer Carlton Cuse, are teaming up for a vampire-centric show on FX.

It will be based on Del Toro’s popular book series The Strain.

The book trilogy, which was first published in 2009, centers on “a vampire virus that infects New York and the CDC doctor, Ephraim “Eph” Goodweather,

who investigates the case.” The series will focus on biology instead of the supernatural view we’re used to.

There were rumors of Del Toro adapting the story for the big screen, but it seems he’s taken another route.

Del Toro and Chuck Hogan co-wrote the books, and will also write the pilot script. Cuse will serve as executive producer and showrunner. Over the next year, he’ll have his hands full with both The Strain and the Psycho prequel Bates Motel that he’s developing for A&E.

The Strain trilogy consists of the sequels, The Fall, which was released in 2010 and 2011′s The Night Eternal.
